KIA Carnival

After making a successful entry in the Indian market with Seltos SUV, Kia Motors is now ready to launch its second product – the Carnival premium MPV. Most Indians believe that the Kia Carnival will challenge the Toyota Innova Crysta. Well, that’s not right. It will create an all-new segment, which will sit right above the Crysta. To make things easier to understand, the Kia Carnival will cost you similar to some premium 7-seater SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.

While the Premium and Prestige are available with the 8- and 9-seat options, the Limousine variant is offered with 7-seat options. The MPV gets a single 2.2-litre diesel engine with a single 8-speed automatic gearbox option.

QUALITY INTERIOR

The Kia Carnival will be introduced as a CKD model. It comes with solid interior with excellent plastic quality and fit and finish. We drove the top-spec Carnival Limousine variant, which is a 7-seater. The dashboard design is simple, yet functional and has soft-touch materials along with chrome highlights and glossy treatment. It comes with Nappa-leather seats, which feels premium. The second-row of seats is the major talking point, as it offers lots of space, premium feel and several features like laptop charging point, air purifier, sunroof, USB charger and multiple adjustment options for the seats.

NEGATIVES

TOO MANY MANUAL INPUTS/EFFORTS
Kia Motors claim that the Carnival’s second row is designed to give world-class experience to passengers. The MPV gets separate 10.1-inch touchscreens for rear passengers’ entertainment along with laptop charger, air purifier, separate air-cooling system, nappa leather seats and lots of space to enjoy the ride. What’s annoying is that you need to put in lots of efforts to enjoy all the comfort and luxury feel that Kia claims.

New Ford Endeavour

Ford has launched the new generation of its flagship SUV – the Endeavour. Known for its rugged built and brawny drive, the SUV has had quite a following since its launch back in 2004. Known as the Everest in other markets, it was first showcased as the 'Everest concept' in Sydney, Australia in 2013, and later unveiled at the 2014 Bangkok Motor Show. It is based on a new ladder frame chassis in order to beef up its off-road capabilities.

Ford Endeavour price starts at 26.02 Lake and goes up to 32.7 Lake. Diesel Endeavour price starts at 26.02 Lake.

It is powered by a 2.2-liter four-cylinder TDCi diesel engine that churns out a maximum power output of 158bhp along with a peak torque of 385Nm. This engine is paired to a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as standard and is available with rear-wheel-drive layout. As per ARAI, the Endeavour 2.2L is claimed to return a fuel efficiency of 12.62 kmpl. The range-topping model is propelled by a 3.2-liter Duratorq five-cylinder TDCi diesel engine that is good for 197bhp and 470Nm of torque and is mated to the same 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Exterior Ford Endeavour
The new Ford Endeavour is based on Ford's Edge design philosophy, while retaining the muscular styling all through. The new car gets an aggressive front end featuring a dominant four-slat chrome grille, but misses out on the Endeavour script like the current one. The body colored bumpers come with silver inserts that house the new fog lamps. The car looks premium with the aesthetically added chrome.
The changes on the side are evident with the shoulder line tapering towards the rear as against the boxy look of the older car. The chiselled wheel arches house brand new alloy wheels. At the back, the bumper also comes with silver accents and houses the reflectors. The horizontal wraps around tail lamps ditch the old Christmas-tree arrangement.

The interior of the New Endeavour is inspired by Ford's F-150 pickup truck. The cabin features Ford's SYNC 3 multimedia system with an eight-inch infotainment touch screen display like in the F-150. There is a sporty three-spoke steering wheel and an instrument cluster that consists of an analogue speedometer with two screens on either side. One screen displays the entertainment options like the touch screen display on the centre console, while the other shows other information like fuel, temperature, mileage, etc. In the four-wheel-drive variant, it also provides very useful off-road information such as angle of roll, pitch, and even the amount the front wheels are turned. The top-of-the-line variant gets leather seats and even a leather-stitched dashboard. The 4X4 trim comes with Hill Descent Control, Hill Launch Assist and an electronically locking rear differential.

The former power plant produces 158bhp of power and 385Nm of torque, while the latter develops 197bhp of power and 470Nm of torque. Both engines come mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, but the 2.2-litre engine model also gets a six-speed manual gearbox in a different variant. The 2.2-litre engine is available in 4x2 manual and automatic setups and the 4x4 manual transmission setup. The 3.2-litre engine gets 4x4 standards for the manual and automatic transmissions.
